We are thrilled to chat with one of our digital copywriters from the Twenty Over Ten family, Rachel Hanley! She has been an awesome addition to the team, as she assists with blogs and marketing, as well! We are so excited for this newest blog for our Meet the Team series!
As a digital copywriter who also assists with our blogs, Rachel is quite busy and has been a huge asset to our company. Keep reading to find out more about her!
To start, where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m originally from Harrisburg, PA and I now live in State College, PA.
How did you get your start as a digital copywriter?
I actually majored in Journalism in college, and I began as a copywriter at a Lancaster-based company called WebstaurantStore. Eventually, I moved over to their marketing department and worked as an SEO writer on blogs and articles. I’ve also been keeping up with my journalistic roots by freelance writing for a Harrisburg-based magazine called TheBurg.
What is a typical day like for you at work?
Well, if I’m working from home a typical day at work is usually about 80% writing and 20% keeping my cats, Sedona & Mojave, off the keyboard. But the rest of my time I’m either researching and writing articles for Content Assist, meeting new clients and learning about their firm or I’m developing site copy for our Boost and Forge clients.
What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?
I absolutely love cooking. I’m always excited to try a new recipe (I’ll usually go for one or two new ones a week!) I’m also always down for a yoga class or piyo (a mix of pilates and yoga). Because I’m a grandma at heart, I enjoy knitting and crocheting as well! And now that spring is here, I’m excited to get down and dirty in my vegetable garden.
If you could be any animal what would you be and why?
Oh man, it’s a toss-up. Elephants are my favorite, but I’m such a beach bum that I think seagull be a better answer! Then I can hang out on the beach all day and beg for french fries.
If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
The travel junkie in me says “anywhere that’s as far away and exotic as possible!” I think I’d have to go to Bali or Fiji. I just can’t pass up a good beach destination!
What is the best meal that you have ever eaten?
Wow… coming up with an answer for that is a tall order! 3 meals a day for 25 years gives me quite a few options. I’d have to say one that really sticks out in my mind is this 11-course dumpling dinner I had in China. Each course was a different type of dumpling, and I swear I can still describe the courses to this day, they were amazing. And that trip was 11 years ago!
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
I really enjoy working with a firm or advisor who has a specific niche or target audience. Coming up with copy that’s centered around something “out of the norm” gets my creative juices flowing for sure.
What is your favorite tv show of all time?
I know it’s off the air, but I absolutely love Monk. I watched it religiously when it was on TV, and now thanks to streaming services, I’m so happy to be able to rewatch old episodes again! As for my more modern obsessions, I’ve been an avid watcher of American Horror Story since season 1.
If you could bring 3 books to a deserted island, which ones would you choose?
I’m sure this is a popular answer among my fellow 90’s kids, but anything from the Harry Potter series. I’ve read every book so many times, and I’d be just as happy to keep reading them all over again (and bonus – on a beach!)
