We are thrilled to chat with one of our lead developers from the Twenty Over Ten family, Dave Squires! He is such an integral part of the company and has been here from the start, so we are so pumped for this newest blog for our Meet the Team series!
As the head of technology here at Twenty Over Ten, he is obviously quite busy! He brings over 15 years of experience in startup and growth stage internet companies. Dave drives the system architecture and technology solutions that power our products at scale. Keep reading to get to know more about him!
To start, where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Massachusetts. My family moved to Maryland when I was seven and have lived here for the past 10 years (give or take a decade or two).
How did you get your start in your field of work?
It really started after going to a Computer Show and Sale, which was an exhibit with different computer vendors that would come once a year. When I was 12, I bought parts and built my first computer. After learning about the hardware, then getting AOL and learning about the internet and how websites are created, I was hooked and have been hooked ever since.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I’m pretty sure I envisioned not having to work (website + ? = $), but things don’t always go according to plan (which is good).
Do you have any favorite sports teams? If so, who are they?
I’m not a big sports watcher, but I do enjoy shooting the occasional hoops.
If you could fly anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you choose to go?
After seeing Hangover 2 I’ve always felt Bangkok looks like a fun place, so most likely Thailand.
Could you describe your perfect day either at work or in your free time?
Good friends, good food, good booze, good conversation.
If you could be any type of animal, what would it be and why?
We have a cat and her typical day consists of eating and sleeping, I think I could get used to that.
How do you like to unwind after a busy day of work?
After work, I’ll have dinner, spend time with my wife and two children, then spend a few hours reading either books or more typically online.
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
No idea. Just keep moving.
