We are extremely excited to welcome our newest team member to the Twenty Over Ten family! Our Meet the Team series showcases the awesome people that make doing our work so enjoyable. With so many moving parts day in and day out, it takes a lot to keep things running smoothly, but that’s part of the fun, and we’re so glad that our amazing team helps us to do this.
Recently, we had the opportunity to catch up with Melissa Arroyo, one of our web designers. As part of the Twenty Over Ten design team, Melissa is part of the reason why we continue to create such beautiful, tailored websites for our awesome clients!
Where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m from Latin America but I’ve got all the #MidwestVibes. I’ve lived in the Kansas City area most of my life and I often catch myself saying “oup” in public. 😅
What did you want to be growing up?
I once answered that question saying I wanted to be a fortune teller…(yes, glass ball and tarot cards!), then a writer, a graphic designer…I was really into anything creative and interesting!
What was the first job that you ever had?
I did the high-in-demand babysitting job when I was in high school.
How did you get your start working in your profession now?
It was quite the journey! I graduated with a journalism degree, worked as a digital marketer for tech companies and wrote for a local newspaper on the side. It was really rewarding but I wanted to make a career change. I took some time to go back to school, learn to code and design websites, and here we are today!
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Anywhere with nice people, warm weather, gorgeous scenery, and great food! 🏖✈️
What are the three best movies that you have ever seen?
This one’s tough, but if I had to choose:
- – Jurassic Park
- – Home Alone
- – Mulan
What do you like to do in your free time?
During my free time, I volunteer as Marketing Director for Kansas City Women in Technology to connect women in the area with our coding classes. I also spend some time working on improving my own coding and design skills, binge-watching shows on Netflix, and grabbing a coffee with friends!
How do you stay motivated during the work week?
I really enjoy taking a few minutes to chat with someone in my team! I’m very lucky to be working with a team that supports and encourages each other — we’re also pretty funny and outgoing– and briefly chatting with a team member can really lighten up a busy week!
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
🔮 Well, my crystal ball says I’ll be at my tiny house in the mountains writing a book, so that would be fine by me! 🙂
