For this month’s “Meet the Team” blog, we caught up with Digital Marketing Intern and Videographer, Andrei Paras. He is an integral part of our marketing team, helping us create and bring to life our weekly video series.
To find out more about his time working for the Appalachian State football team to what he likes to do in his free time, be sure to check out the rest of the blog.
Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
I go to Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina where I am majoring in Electronic Media/Broadcasting and minoring in Sustainable Technology.
You are the creative brain behind our weekly videos. Can you tell us more about your background in editing and video production?
I have been editing videos since I was in elementary school! I used to film myself on my parents’ old iMac and then edit them in iMovie when I was around nine years old, so I’ve had editing experience since elementary school.
The first time I picked up a camera was in middle school when I used to film my friends skateboarding. I became interested in video in high school, where I did a video production program all 4 years, and then I really got serious in college when I chose video production as a major and began working as a content creator for the athletics department.
We know that you also create videos for the football team at Appalachian State University. That’s so cool! Between classes, extracurricular activities and your internship, do you have any tips for other students who are trying to balance it all?
Thank you! It’s definitely tough and stressful at times being a student working multiple jobs, but time management, organization, and leaving time for yourself have always kept me in check. Organization in the video world is key, so I keep files organized and make sure I write down everything on my schedule so that I can stay centered. Leaving time for yourself is also a big thing I try to keep up with. Being so busy almost 24/7, I try to always take a few hours out of my day to just breathe, take a walk outside, and enjoy my surroundings.
You have been such an integral part of our marketing team, as you put out awesome video content every week. What has been your favorite part so far about your internship? Do you have any success stories that have stood out for you?
My favorite part so far has definitely just been the team environment. Even though we are remote, everyone does such a wonderful job of making me feel like I’m right there with them.
From the first day, the marketing crew has made me feel so welcomed and has made me feel like family. One of my favorite projects I’ve worked on is the FMG mobile app trailer, it was so cool seeing my work being on the Google Play store!
In terms of success stories, I can’t think of anything particular, but I will say that organization has been the key to my success as an intern.
Going to school in the mountains would be so much fun. What’s your favorite outdoor activity that you get to do up there?
Snowboarding for sure! I took a ski class and a snowboard class for my PE credits but definitely turned out to be better on a snowboard. When it’s not winter, I love hiking the mountains around me and capturing the beauty with my camera!
Do you have any plans for when you graduate from college? What would be your dream job?
No specific plans as of right now. Maybe stick around with FMG Suite/Twenty Over Ten? My dream job is to be a creative content role at a D1 university athletics program or videographer for an NBA/NFL team.
What show are you currently binging?
The new season 3 of “You” on Netflix. Joe and Love get even crazier, I didn’t think it was possible. Oh and a lot of college football on the weekends.
What’s your favorite type of music? Anything, in particular, you like to listen to when editing your videos?
I definitely listen to hip-hop the most, just because we use a lot of it for football content, and Lil Baby has been in my music rotation recently. However, I enjoy all kinds of music. From rap to electronic to international music, I love it all! Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of classical and piano tracks while editing, it really helps me focus and stay calm.
