How Financial Advisors Can Record Marketing Videos On A Shoestring Budget Featured Image

Video marketing has become the most effective and popular digital media strategy. In fact, according to our Twenty Over Ten’s recent digital marketing study of 200+ advisors, advisors getting 11+ more clients per year from digital marketing were most likely to use video.

So it’s no surprise that every small business is jumping on the bandwagon to integrate video into their digital marketing mix. However, many want to get started but just don’t know where to start or have the time and resources to allocate to video marketing. A common video marketing myth is that creating videos is expensive.

But today we’re going to share the exact process we use to create our weekly videos and it’s completely free! Below we’re outlining step-by-step how our team creates and disseminates our marketing videos in just three easy steps and how you can do exactly the same thing for your advisor business.

Around 92% of marketers say that video content is important to their marketing strategy.

Who Watches Video Content in 2022

Step 1: Just Use Your Phone

The first thing you need is a recording device. At Twenty Over Ten, our CMO Samantha Russell records all our marketing videos on her iPhone. Trust us, you don’t need anything fancy – the video quality of smartphones has improved drastically, making them a reliable choice for your videos.

What’s even better is that most of us today have a smartphone, so all you need to do is reach into your pocket! So once you’ve got your smartphone and a topic, it’s time to record. Find a quiet place with good lighting so that the video sounds and looks crisp, professional, and clear.

Step 2: Add Captions To Your Video

The second thing you want to do is add captions to your videos. When people see your video on social media, blogs, your website, etc. many of them don’t have their device volume on.

Some people may also be in environments where they can’t turn the volume on. Therefore, adding captions improves accessibility – it ensures that everyone who wants to see the video can actually see it. There are many ways to transcribe videos, but at Twenty Over Ten we use a free tool called Headliner.

Headliner automatically transcribes your video for you. All you have to do is pick an orientation – landscape, square, or portrait, and then upload your video. Sometimes, the transcription bot isn’t 100% accurate so you’ll want to be sure you read through the transcripted that gets auto-populated and edit any errors, misspellings, etc.

Step 3: Upload Your Video on Multiple Platforms

Now that you’ve got both your original video and the transcribed version, it’s time to put them out there. We first upload our videos to Youtube.

We suggest using YouTube over a Vimeo or Wistia because of the search engine capability – YouTube is actually the second largest search engine (after Google), so you get a lot more bang for your buck if you host videos on YouTube. Alongside YouTube, we share the transcribed versions on our other social media channels including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

We also include our videos in relevant blog posts. For example, If we have a blog about lead generation and we previously created a video on the same topic, we simply drop the YouTube link into the blog post.

We encourage you to do the same thing as well in order to get the most views. Another great place you can upload your videos is on your website. Depending on the video content, you can upload your videos on the “about us” or “get to know me” sections.

Viola, there you have it! This is our 3-step process of creating videos that you can use too. It is free, easy, effective, and a great way to get started with video marketing.
