Olivia Devenport

We’re closing out 2020 with our final “Meet the Team” blog of the year, and today, we’re excited to speak with Olivia Devonport for our most recent Meet the Team series. Olivia has been an amazing asset to Twenty Over Ten and she works directly with clients to create compelling copy that best showcases their firm.

Olivia is one of the main reasons why our advisors’ websites turn out so awesome and we are grateful that she is a part of our team. Read on to learn more about her!

First, tell us where you’re from and where you live now

I’ve lived all over but I consider myself to be a California girl at heart, having lived in San Jose for a large part of my life. I currently live in Wilmington, North Carolina.

As a digital copywriter, you work one on one with advisors to help them create amazing copy for their websites. How did you get your start writing website copy?

My passion for writing started when I was really young but I began doing freelance work as a writer and social media manager a few years ago. I’ve always loved getting to know people and helping them develop their brands – working with Twenty Over Ten has only fostered that interest.

What is your favorite part of your job? Any success stories or memorable moments that stand out for you?

The best part of my job is learning about people’s stories. Everyone has one (even financial advisors) and I feel that developing an understanding of where people come from helps identify why they do what they do. A great experience for me is when advisors are digging deep for the first time to learn about how their “why” matters and relates directly to their work with clients.

I’m sure every day looks different, but if you could describe a “typical” day at work, what would it entail?

I begin (nearly) every day with a double shot of espresso to get my creative energy flowing. After which, I dig into emails and organize any calls, writing, etc. I have on my agenda for the day. Lately, I’ve had the opportunity to connect one on one with advisors at least once per day, which is always unique based on who I’m meeting with and what they’re looking for in their website copy.

Outside of work, how have you stayed busy during the pandemic? Are there any new hobbies you have picked up with this extra time at home?

Luckily, I’m an expert introvert, so I’ve spent my time during the pandemic priming my skills in reading, writing and baking. I also moved to Wilmington from Raleigh a few months ago, which has allowed me to spend more time to explore locally and visit the beach with my family.

If you could hop on a plane and travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

Pre-pandemic I was really looking forward to traveling to Portugal and I’m hoping to do so once we’re able again. I love traveling and experiencing new places, cultures, etc. so this year has made me appreciate even the smallest trips that much more.

What is the most memorable trip you’ve ever taken?

Nearly 5 years ago I spent a summer backpacking through Western Europe. With little more than a rough itinerary and friends I’d hoped to visit, it was an epic trip that encouraged me to be spontaneous (which is tough for my type-A personality) and absorb the cultures I experienced.

We love our furry friends at Twenty Over Ten. Tell us about your fur babies, what are their names and personalities like?

I’m a proud cat mom to my boys, Han and Chewy. They’re about 3 years old and while usually well-behaved, they’re pretty dog-like and never let a table scrap go to waste.

What is your current favorite read, podcast or TV series?

As a huge fan of the Office, I’ve loved listening to The Office Ladies podcast and getting an inside look at how the show was filmed/the antics that took place behind the scenes.

If you were a Star Wars character which would you be and why?

This is such a tough question because I can relate to the traits of a number of different characters from Princess Leia to adorable Porgs. But, in reality, I’m probably an odd combination of Jyn Erso and Maz Kanata. Both are incredibly strong and passionate women that have experienced a tremendous amount in their lifetimes. Jyn’s independence alongside Maz’s loyalty to those in need are traits I can connect well with.
